Share The Holidays With Pets
Remember to keep human food away from pets.
Many Thanksgiving staples can be harmful to pets. Foods high in fat can lead to digestive issues, while others may be toxic, resulting in serious health risks like tummy discomfort, anemia, or even kidney failure.
Avoid giving your pets these common Thanksgiving foods:
Onions, scallions, and onion powder
Garlic and garlic powder
Raisins, currants, and grapes
Chocolate
Ham
Turkey bones
Sugar free desserts
Consider using flameless candles to keep your home festive without the fire risk.
Keep small decorations out of your pet’s reach, especially those with sharp edges or small parts.
Set up a room where your pet can retreat from the hustle and bustle. Include their bed, some toys, and fresh water to help them feel secure.
With the door opening frequently, your pet is at a higher risk of escaping. Make sure they have proper identification, such as a collar with tags and a microchip with up-to-date information.
Even with precautions in place, accidents can happen. Watch for signs of distress or illness in your pet during the holiday:
Vomiting or Diarrhea: These can be signs of dietary indiscretion or exposure to toxic substances. Contact your veterinarian if your pet shows these symptoms.
Unusual Behavior: If your pet seems unusually lethargic, agitated, or shows signs of pain, it’s best to consult your vet immediately.
Choking or Difficulty Breathing: Seek immediate veterinary attention.
