Bahn AX AXJ CGC TT TDI Powderhorns Bahn of Wencrest AX AXJ CGC TT TDI Rottweiler Owners: Steve & Sandy Burns Hander: Zee Marie Bahn was born on April Fool’s Day 04/01/98 and he has been known to fool me from time-to-time. :-) I was thrilled when Sandy asked me if I would like to handle him in agility. Steve laid down a wonderful foundation with Bahn for which we have been building on. Bahn is a people lover and my favorite part of him is his little stub tail which I endearingly call “happy tail” as it let’s me know his different levels of excitement and contentment. One of our challenges together was knocked bars and lots of them. I brought him to Smarty Paws Canine Coaching where MaryKay setup a few jumps then just watched us. After a few minutes she remarked, "He doesn't know how to jump." I said, "What do you mean he doesn't know how to jump. All dogs KNOW how to jump, don't they?" She smiled knowingly and as calm as could be explained, "Dogs don't know how to jump, they have to be taught how to recognize heights and distances of the obstacles they are approaching." Through a series of several exercises over the next few weeks and efforts made by myself, MaryKay and Sandy, we strengthened his hind quarters and taught him how to jump. Rotweillers are known for being top heavy so it was important to visit an animal chiropractor regularly and strengthen his hind quarters with swimming and other exercises. Well, it all worked and soon we were running agility courses without dropping any bars! The aspect of this I appreciated the most was MaryKay took the time to observe Bahn and analyze what was going on for him. Then gave us instructions on how to support him for his body and temperment. It was an amazing thing to experience and we are grateful for her extensive knowledge. Bahn, who was a dog we were happy just to get novice titles with, went on to earn both his excellent titles. He's retired now and still welcomes me with that happy tail.
