RALLY I  | Thursdays at 7:00 pm | 12/3/15 – 1/7/16

This class will be shortened 4 week session.

The Rally I class will focus on developing the dog-handler teamwork connection using on-leash exercises that demonstrate the dog’s understanding of basic commands such as sit, stay, down, come and heel position. Focus will be on establishing the dog’s attention to handler. Students will also learn how to properly perform each Novice Rally sign/exercise; how the sign/exercise is scored; and the steps required to train each skill or behavior. A new course will be presented each week to allow you to practice the signs covered that week.
Pre-requisites:
The Rally I student should have already successfully completed a Basic Obedience class. Your dog should know how to heel on a loose leash, sit when you stop, down and sit on command, perform both a sit and down stay, stand/stay, and recall when called. A familiarity with the finish exercise from both sides is also necessary to perform many of the Novice exercises.

AKC Rally is the new dog sport that is taking the nation by storm, a successful stepping stone from the AKC Canine Good Citizen® program to the world of obedience or agility. Rally offers both the dogs and handlers an experience that is fun and upbeat. The canine team moves at their own pace, very similar to rally-style auto racing. Rally was designed with the traditional pet owner in mind, but it can still be very challenging for those who enjoy higher levels of competition.

A rally course includes 10 to 20 stations, depending on the level. Scoring is not as rigorous as traditional obedience. Communication between handler and dog is encouraged and perfect heel position is not required, it is all about teamwork! The main objective of rally is to produce dogs that have been trained to behave in the home, in public places, and in the presence of other dogs, and to develop a working relationship with dog and handler.
